He is credited with creating the first chrome tube chair, The Wassily Chair, in 1925 using the new manufacturing techniques and materials available at the time. From there he specialized in his now famous range of cantilever chair designs which have become icons of 20. The B35 is one such chair that uses a combination of bent beech wood and saddle leather set within a cantilever tubular chrome frame to create a chair with an outstanding aesthetic and that is also supremely comfortable.
This comfort is increased with the use of the matching footstool. Originally designed in 1928 this set was produced by Thonet, who were the original producer of the chair, probably in the 1980's and each piece is labelled accordingly as shown. The set is presented in very good vintage condition with marks and patina to the leather along with a little fading, as shown, here and there commensurate with age that actually adds to the overall appeal. The chrome and wooden elements are also in very good condition with no major marks, or rust pitting to speak of. All in all a beautiful and iconic set that would be equally at home in a reception room, living room, conservatory or bedroom setting.
